Frequently asked questions

Renting a motorbike or scooter in Thailand, answered.

Booking and payment

How much do I pay to book?

You pay a ฿100 deposit to reserve the bike. The rest of the rental price is paid directly to the shop when you collect it. The full breakdown is shown before you confirm.

Why is the deposit so low compared to other shops?

The ฿100 is a booking deposit that holds the bike for you — it is not a security deposit. Individual shops may still ask for their own security deposit or hold a document at pickup. Check the listing, and ask the host through chat before you travel.

When is my booking confirmed?

Your reservation is pending until the shop accepts it. You will get a notification as soon as they do. If they decline, or do not respond, your deposit is refunded in full.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Each listing shows its cancellation policy. Where none is stated, our standard policy applies: cancel more than 24 hours before the booking starts and the deposit is refunded in full. Inside 24 hours the deposit is not refunded. If the shop cancels on you, you are always refunded in full.

Licences and the law

What licence do I need?

You need a licence valid for the class of bike you are riding. For most visitors that means your home country's motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit endorsed for motorcycles. A car licence alone does not cover a motorbike. Shops can refuse to hand over a bike if you cannot produce the right licence.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes — helmet use is required by law in Thailand for both rider and passenger, and it is enforced. Every listing includes a helmet; ask the host if you need a second one or a particular size.

What happens if I get a fine?

Traffic fines incurred during your booking are your responsibility. If a fine reaches the shop after you have returned the bike, they may contact you through BikeBee to settle it.

Damage protection

What does damage protection cover?

Damage protection is an optional add-on costing ฿1,000 per booking. It is not an insurance policy, and BikeBee is not an insurer. See damage protection for what it is and is not intended to include — riding without a valid licence, or under the influence, voids it.

The bike already has scratches. What should I do?

Photograph everything before you ride away and file a damage report from your booking. That record is what protects you from being charged for damage you did not cause.

Pickup and delivery

Can the bike be delivered to me?

Many shops deliver to a hotel or the nearest airport for a fee shown at checkout. Listings that offer it are marked, and you can filter for delivery on the search page.

How do I contact the shop?

Message them through BikeBee once your booking exists. Keeping the conversation on the platform means we can help if something goes wrong.
